The Embassy’s role is to deepen bilateral political relations between Ireland and Tanzania; serve the needs of Irish citizens; strengthen trade, tourism and investment between our countries and support the socio-economic development through a targeted development cooperation and trade programme.

The Embassy wishes to contract the services of a full-time Programme Officer to support the oversight and implementation of our development cooperation and trade portfolio for a six month maternity cover.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the Embassy’s communications plans and public diplomacy plans and associated planning events (mid-year and annual), specifically in relation to Our Prosperity and Public Diplomacy objectives

  • Provide communications strategies for individual events in advance, liaise with providers e.g. photographers and videographers, when needed,

  • Develop weekly and monthly communication plans and materials to support the Embassy’s public diplomacy agenda, including drafting Tweets

  • Assist in organisation and participate in Embassy public diplomacy events, and set-up of events to ensure Embassy visibility (ie. assisting to set up communications materials)

  • Maintain Irish Tanzania business list and provide regular trade and business information to them, including the Doing Business in Ireland guide

  • Maintain relationship with Education Ireland and facilitate visits if required.

  • Management of photos and communications materials

  • Lead social media campaign around Fellowships programme in August/September 2025

  • Prepare event reports on Embassy trade and public diplomacy activities

  • Update Twitter as required

  • Other duties as detailed in the job description and as required.

Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant BA/BSc qualification

  • Fluency in spoken and written English language

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and experience with using social media for professional communication

  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically

  • Ability to network effectively, work in teams and influence decisions

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written Kiswahili

  • Minimum three years relevant professional experience

  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Tanzanian media landscape

  • The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Tanzania prior to recruitment.

Terms and conditions of employment:

  • The successful candidate will be offered a six month contract, and will be based at the Embassy of Ireland, Dar es Salaam.

  • The salary for the position is TSH 5,890,436 per month and TSH 76,575,669 annually, including a 13th month) paid pro rata. Salary scales are fixed by HQ and non-negotiable.

  • The positions will have an annual leave allowance of 24 days per annum, exclusive of public holidays, adjusted pro rata.

Selection Process:

  • Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above.

  • A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates;

Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment.
