Overview:
VisionFund Tanzania (VFT) is owned by VisionFund International, World Vision’s microfinance subsidiary. VFT is the fourth-largest and fastest-growing Microfinance Institution (MFI) in Tanzania, known for its high-quality portfolio, efficient operations, and self-sustainability. We are seeking a strategic and committed leader to serve as CEO and lead VFT’s operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mission, Purpose & Business Acumen
- Ensure the vision, mission, goals, and policies set by the Board and VisionFund International (VFI) are fully implemented.
- Balance MFI sustainability and profitability while achieving social goals.
- Safeguard and steward VFT resources prudently.
- Foster an organizational culture reflecting VFT’s mission and vision.
- Develop, monitor, and implement the Strategic Plan, Three-Year Business Plan, and Annual Plan.
- Coordinate budget development, financial projections, and resource acquisition.
- Achieve targets and strategic goals, ensuring plans are cascaded to staff and KPIs are met.
- Provide transparent and timely reporting to the Board and VFI.
- Implement internal controls, risk management systems, and regulatory compliance.
2. Fundraising
- Negotiate with creditors, grant bodies, and financial institutions.
- Ensure compliance with grant conditions and reporting requirements.
- Manage and close grants and related projects effectively.
3. Finance Management
- Prepare annual financial projections, reports, and budgets for Board approval.
- Manage resources within approved budgets and drive profitability.
- Maintain effective financial management systems.
4. Risk Management
- Ensure portfolio quality aligns with VFI requirements and Board targets.
- Price and deliver savings products effectively (subject to MFI).
- Maintain liquidity management and adequate reserves for deposit-taking institutions.
- Ensure the institution meets external or VF Global Centre rating requirements.
5. Integration
- Promote effective integration with World Vision (WV) and VFI.
- Develop joint livelihoods projects with WV.
- Present VFT’s mission, programs, and services in a strong, positive image.
- Build networks and strategic alliances to influence economic policies.
6. People, Leadership & Culture
- Provide Christ-centered leadership and foster a positive organizational culture.
- Recruit competent senior and middle management.
- Implement staff development, succession planning, and performance management systems.
- Address non-performance and ensure staff engagement and motivation.
7. Policy Formulation & Compliance
- Formulate and implement guidelines and procedures consistent with Board, VFI, and regulatory policies.
- Ensure compliance with Central Bank and other regulatory requirements.
Required Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of senior management experience in microfinance, banking, corporate environments, or economic development.
- Clear understanding of microfinance industry and technology.
- Experience in regulatory environments and savings intermediation is preferred.
- Strong leadership, initiative, and team management skills.
- Ability to motivate and lead the organization forward.
- Commitment to organizational ideals and core values.
- Excellent training, facilitation, mentoring, and coaching skills.
- Strong communication, marketing, and analytical skills.
- Passion for poverty alleviation and community impact.
Travel and Work Environment:
- Typical office-based role with frequent field travel (40% travel, 60% office).
- Travel: 90% domestic, 10% international.
- On-call availability after normal working hours.
- Work permit required for non-local applicants.
